Exploring Brimmed Hats - An Online Masterclass
Exploring Brimmed Hats - An Online Masterclass
We will delve into some unique and advanced brimmed hat designs during this self-paced, online masterclass! First, I will show you how to make classical shapes, like a fedora hat or a telescope hat. Then, we will breathe new life into those traditional styles by adding a unique twist, a contemporary element to each design. You will be astonished by the variety of shapes and styles you can create! You will walk away from this course with three unique brimmed hat designs and a set of skills and ideas to make many more!
Brimmed hats are technically complex and challenging to make. Is it possible to make them from one piece of felt? How do you do the fulling on such a difficult shape? What is the secret behind a wide brim that holds its shape without using a wire? How do you make a snap-brim? How to personalize a fedora hat and make it one-of-a-kind, cutting edge? Can you make your design work both for men and women? How do you line your hat to give it a professional finish? After taking the class, you will be an expert on these issues. You will also gain access to a study group on Facebook, only accessible to the participants of this workshop. Whenever you need advice, inspiration or encouragement from a creative community of hat makers, the group is there to help you out.
When you sign up for this course, within 48 hours, you will have access to all the modules. You will also receive the list of materials that you will need for making your hats. The various modules consist of written instructions and videos. You can study and create at your own pace. I am available for questions via email, at any time. We will schedule a Zoom consultation to discuss your results.
To be able to block the main shape, you will need a dome-shaped hat block (the one used for round-crown hats). For rolling the felt, it is best to use a bamboo shade. I will also provide you with some suggestions on where to buy your materials from.
