The Transformative Power of Making Art: Lessons from my Grandmother

The Artist’s Roadmap

The Transformative Power of Making Art and Completing Creative Projects

How has your summer been? Did you get the chance to slow down, recharge, and find some moments of creative rest? September is a symbolic time for me: I’m ready to shift gears—setting creative goals and harvesting all the inspiration I’ve collected over the summer. In this blog, I want to share my thoughts with you on how creating art, planning and finishing creative projects trigger personal growth and fulfilment.

I truly believe that every time we finish a creative project—whether it’s a hat, a new design, or just an experiment—we are transformed. The bigger the challenge, the greater the transformation. One of my projects was writing this blog for you, and the moment I finished the last sentence, I felt a surge of satisfaction and excitement. It reinforced my belief: Yes, I can do this.

Goal-setting and following through doesn’t always come naturally to me—and it used to be way worse. I was messy, unfocused, and constantly frustrated, up to the point that I doubted whether I was good enough as an artist. But then, I discovered something that changed everything.

Before sharing my secret recipe for achieving artistic fulfilment, let me tell you about my journey. Although I had always dreamed of becoming a professional artist, I studied linguistics, became a teacher, and even dipped my toes into academia for a while. Although I deeply value the experiences and lessons from that time, I couldn’t shake the feeling of being unfulfilled. Something was missing.

I grew up in Hungary with parents who deeply appreciated art, yet the looming fear of the ‘starving artist’ was ever-present—a path seen as something to avoid at all costs. My creative pursuits were often met with scepticism, worry, and fear, and I spent years battling against that judgment, fighting the feelings of shame and isolation it brought. It took me a long time and the guidance of a few incredible mentors to finally silence my self-doubt and embrace my true artistic path. That’s why I’m so passionate about helping others overcome their own creative blocks and fully commit to becoming the artists they’re meant to be.

Embroidery Lessons with my Grandmother Rozália: Patience, Persistence and Growth

My grandmother, Rozália, was the mentor who most shaped me. She was a brilliant craftswoman, textile artist, gardener, cook, and storyteller. She taught me that every small step counts, no matter how distant your dreams seem. One of the most valuable lessons she taught me was this: small steps and small wins are like pearls; collect them, string them together, and you’ll create something incredibly precious and beautiful.

As a young girl, she dreamed of becoming a textile artist, but her father forbade her from pursuing a professional career; her place, he insisted, was to marry and raise a family. Yet, she never let go of her dreams. In secret(!!!!), she took art lessons at a nearby college and mastered various textile techniques for fashion.

Small steps and small wins are like pearls; string them together, and you’ll create something beautiful and precious.

I can still feel the soothing touch of her hands guiding mine as she taught me to embroider delicate flowers on a simple white canvas. Her voice echoes in my memory as she sat beside me, telling me: “Be patient with yourself. One stitch at a time.” With each stitch, her words sank in deeper. Slowly, as I stitched flower after flower, a vibrant garden began to bloom where there was once only emptiness, turning that plain canvas into something beautiful and alive.

Over the years, as I followed my path as an artist—stitch by stitch on a once-empty canvas—I learned two crucial lessons: first, you need a guide or a mentor to help you overcome procrastination and self-doubt and second, you need a roadmap, a plan to get there. And today, I want to offer you both.

The Creative goal Roadmap

Earlier this year, I read Michael Hyatt’s Your Best Year Ever, a brilliant guide for anyone looking to sharpen their focus and achieve their goals. Inspired by its insights, I created a roadmap that has helped me set and achieve my most challenging creative goals over the past months with amazing results. I’ve never shared this with anyone—until now. Today, I’m sharing it with you because I want you to experience the fulfilment and transformation that come from completing your most ambitious projects.

The Guide

So, let’s make this your best creative year ever. Remember: you don’t have to do this alone. Finding a community, a group of like-minded people who understand your ambition and reassure you when things get messy and difficult can make the difference between a failed artist and a thriving, successful creative. If you want to live a creatively fulfilled life and become successful, you need someone to hold you accountable for taking the right steps towards reaching those amazing ambitions inside you.

I’m here to support you on this amazing journey! Just send me a message with your creative goal and deadline. Whatever you are creating, I’ll personally hold you accountable, check in around your set date, and help you stay on track to reach your goal.

I’m so excited for you and can’t wait to see what you accomplish this fall and winter! Leave a comment below and let me know when you’re starting and what creative project you’re planning to tackle! If you liked this post, please share it with friends!
